Happy to be a part of this group and meet some people who understand! My current diagnosis is EDS Type 3.
In 2016, I competed in a powerlifting competition and ran two half marathons, along with a handful of other races. I had lost weight and was working out regularly. Until the beginning of 2017 when I pulled my neck squatting. I thought it was just a normal injury, until I pulled another neck muscle while sleeping. And then another while turning my head. In total it was 5. Shortly after that, joint pain set in. And then tendinitis in several places along with PF. I’ve seen 3 rheumatologists and have been told it was psoriatic arthritis, that I was just getting older and everything was normal (🙄 obviously by a male doctor), until finally my current doctor settled on EDS. .
I’m on medication so my joint pain is gone, but I still have overuse injuries that are quick to flare, along with pesky back pain. I’ve been in Physical Therapy for over 2 years now; I think I’m one of her longest clients! My working out has had to change a lot and I still get down about it sometimes when I think about how strong I used to be. But I’m grateful I’ve found some work around and that I was able to find a doctor who listened to me and believed me when I said something wasn’t right, because I know it’s a lot harder for some people.
Excited to be able to learn some things from y’all and share our struggles 💕
Besides fitness, I also love donuts and fancy cocktails 🍩🍸
